A good portrait says a lot about the person captured.
It also says a lot about the person behind the camera. Opportunity is everywhere, and great photo is right here, right now, you just have to find it.
Everybody has such a different way of looking out of their eyes and moving their hands. It’s those little trademarks that help make you who you are. Just stop for awhile and you’ll see them everywhere. Capture the best of them in a frame and you’ll have an image that means something, it will have weight.
I joke with my friends that being not only a wedding photographer but just a photographer is twenty percent knowing how to use a camera and light and eighty percent knowing how people work. If I can create a space when I’m working that’s warm and invites my people to let down their guard and just be, the photos will start flowing and splashing everywhere.
Making a good portrait means so much to me because time is too fleeting. I’m always very conscious of the fact that I’m making something that will last a very long time, it will be handed down kids and grand kids and so on. I feel that weight… but it feels good.
